Biographical Info

My name is Devon Barker-Hicks, and I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade ELA and Social Studies at Meadows Valley School. I am beginning my18th year teaching grades ranging from 3rd to high school. I earned my Masters in Teaching at the University of Idaho and received my National Board Certification in 2001 and again in 2011. I am very passionate about kayaking and teaching kids to find exciting alternatives to abusing drugs through my Dare to Kayak program. I have a goal to kayak on all seven continents (only Asia and Antarctica to go!), and enjoy skiing, rafting, and reading in my spare time. My life theme has been “anything worth doing is worth overdoing,” and it has helped me to become a world champion kayaker. I would like to motivate and inspire my students with this quote and the belief that anything can be achieved with hard work, dedication, and a deep down drive that says, “I can do it.” I am excited to be teaching this year!
