Secondary - by Johney Larimore
There was a lot of activity on the secondary side. Students bundled up and went to Lake Cascade for a day of ice fishing. The environment and natural resources class has spent the last several weeks constructing their own ice fishing rods, and they were excited for the opportunity to test them out. Ms. Melad and Ms. Kerby accompanied eight students to Donnelly for a day of fishing in the snow. A total of nine fish were caught, all small perch with the exception of Ms. Melad’s monster trout.
Mountaineer wrestlers Natalie, Gracie, and Janette traveled to the ICCU arena in Boise for the girls' district. Natalie won her 2nd match, but Gracie and Janette came up short in their matches. “It was loud, and there was a huge crowd”, Natalie said.
First-semester awards were handed out during an assembly on Thursday. Students were awarded for perfect attendance and honor roll.
Elementary Happenings - by Emmalynne and Remyi
This week in elementary, we are featuring news about Kindergarten, and 4th grade. In 4th grade they have been learning things about writing argumentative essays. They have also been practicing for their ISATS. Also they have been learning about rock fossils and layers of a rock.
In kindergarten this week they have been learning about how the sunlight warms up things, how the sun brings light and warmth and how it melts ice and snow. They have to figure out how to put light on a specific spot of a city on a sheet of paper and they use a lamp to mimic the sun. They learned about Ida Van Smith who is a girl pilot and they also talked about what they want to be when they are older.
